Kumbayah/Ayton VBCW mash up

Post by Buff Orpington »

The two excellent Saturday games from Ayton have inspired me to consider a Kumbayah style scenario where someone has to get a pilot & techs to an aircraft in order to "acquire" some air power.
I was mulling over what sort of aircraft to use as an objective when fate and economy intervened. I'm going for an F86 Sabre, currently at £2.99 plus postage.
I know when to go out
I know when to stay in
Get things done

Any of the earlier MIgs, the 21 is the most numerous but may e a bit overpowered?
I've got the Airfix 1/48 Sea Vixen sitting on the shelf but not really in keeping.

When are you talking, if 50s or 60s, the f4u corsair, mustang, sea fury would give plenty of power, or mig 15, 17, 19, f84, f86, even the humble jet provost or an early mirage. Hell even a dakota in gunship form.

At 2.99, a Sabre sounds great.

Unfortunately to get one of these in the right scale requires a suitcase full of gold bars!

Given its size, I would still use a 1/72nd for it.

The Lockheed ventura we used for Ayton was 1/48 and about the right size. A Dakota would be around 40cm in 1/48 ? So it would look good as an objective. 1/72 might look a bit puny but as it would just effectively be a piece of scenery might be ok. Even then a 2.99 sabre or 5.00 MiG looks better value :)

Of course, the purpose of the MIG might be to chase the Spitfires, Tempests, Mustangs and Corsairs out of the sky.

Good half day fight on day 1 as the Tankers sort out their fight. May I suggest 1:300 standins and WOG.

1960's air combat in 1/48 on Ayton cricket pitch it is then :D
We all have to wear blue clothes and glue the aircraft to hats.
Arm everyone with paintball guns and then watch the aircraft crash to earth when someone gets hit in their 'gentlemens area'!

Jeremy might be disadvantaged because of his big CoC, or his large coiled sausage.
