Well, as Ayton is done and dusted it is time to crack on. I brought some kit along just in case the Yorkshire weather did not provide many sunbathing opportunities.
Sadly my plan to use the Vallejo German Cammo Orange as the base colour for the Earl of Essex's men is not going to work. Lots of Waynes and Traceys may have been conceived in a Ford XR3I this colour but it would have been beyond the scope of 17th century dyers. It looks like slightly faded dayglo.
No pics at present as I don't have Postimages on my phone.

Buff - Many attempts at orange dye in this period turned to a dull tawny, or even - in extremis - a reddish-brown colour (this is why the Dutch abandoned it and went for blue-white-red tricolours, especially at sea). I happen to have a Foundry paints colour chart in front of me (courtesy of young Purple) and I would suggest the shade ("A" tone) of either the orange (code #3) or German oak leaf orange (code #86) palettes would be your best bet for rank-and-file coats etc. Sashes were a slightly different matter, as they were usually made from better quality cloth, but even they were often described as "tawny" to reflect how dark they had "faded".

Buff Orpington wrote: Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:35 pm Bad spelling can be an asset to Ebay search queries. I've seen countless adverts for Rouge Trader in the Warhammer section.
Another good tip is to search on vague terms or ones which are slightly not what you're looking for. So if after 28mm ACW you could search just on 25mm in the toys section.
