Our Show scenario

Post by ochoin »

Towards the end of the year, a local Train & Hobby show will once again feature a wargame from myself & my pals.
The game will be using the Lion Rampant rules- medieval.
I have one issue , if anyone has a solution.

The game will represent an invasion of a country by its enemies (eg the
English invading France or the English invading Scotland, or the English invading Wales.....are you beginning to see a pattern here???).
Each of the 6 of us would lead a retinue representing either invaders or defenders.

We'll use 6'x12' table - a Castle in the middle & several farms (eg house + fields) dotted around . The Invaders will be spaced very separately around the table, the defenders will be initially grouped at the castle.

The three invader retinues gain points for looting and burning farms, killing fleeing bands of peasants & destroying
defender units. The three defender retinues gain points for saving assets and destroying invader units

The problem is, what will stop this from simply becoming 3 battles, as soon as the pairs of invader/defender meet up?
IE the elaborate scenario and cunning scoring scheme gives way to three "slug-fests"?
There needs to be some breaking off mechanism.
Any ideas?

An Impassible river, dense wood, impossibly boggy ground or threat of attack by supposed erstwhile ally should a payer's troops enter terrain designated as the responsibility of another commander

And what makes you think playing "the anti-Pom card" will work in Australia? :moredrink:

M'lud. The Prosecution humbly suggests we let the historical record speak for itself.

It should work, it's pretty much universal.
