I must say, I'm a new convert to Wargames Atlantic. The Dark Age stuff is lovely. I saw some of the WWII sprues and they looked tiny but I took a gamble on the Dark Age Irish and they are a good size, slightly outsize Gripping Beast plastics.BaronVonWreckedoften wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 8:17 pm I can remember the days when the Guards Band/Colour Party were the raw material most frequently used for conversions to Imperial Guard Grenadiers to fight the newly-released Highlanders.....
In other news, took advantage of a 20% off sale at Goblin Gaming to get myself a box each of Wargames Atlantic WW1 Germans, Wargames Atlantic 95th Riflemen, and Perry Napoleonic British Infantry, plus two bags of clump foliage for basing, just to take it over the "free postage" limit. The Perry box will end up going to a mate who is building Peninsula forces after I've nicked all the Belgic shakos in oilskin covers for the Riflemen because, contrary to popular belief, that is actually what they were wearing at Waterloo, and for at least the last year in the Peninsula as well.

Indeed, if you don't mind the slight delays (which I don't) because there is always at least one item I've chosen that is out of stock and they wait until it's all in to send your order.

Flags of War released their Arquebusiers de Grassin, so picked their packs up plus characters.

Our postman Ian brought me my copy of Hail Caesar today and I've just ordered a 12 man unit of Roman cavalry from Aventine.

Picked up a copy of Northag in the PSC sale. I can't see me using it, but I wouldn't mind checking it out.

Trawling through eBay and picked up some cheap sprues for Victrix French Middle Guard (plus covered shako heads) - the main sprue was Chasseurs a Pied which I don't already have, which prompted the purchase), pre-Bardin French infantry (mainly for the bits and pieces that come with it), which will become capote-clad voltigeur opposition for my Sharp Practice Brunswickers, and a box of Victrix Waterloo British flank company for some useful allies. Some more Perry boxes (another British infantry and one each of the 1807-14 French); a couple of the Dawson books on the French army at Waterloo - one on the uniforms (ie what each regiment was actually wearing based on pre- and post-Waterloo returns) and one on casualties. The uniform book is dead good, confirming suspicions that a lot of the non-Garde troops wore greatcoats (see above) and one or two units might even have still been wearing the pre-Bardin habite*; the casualty book not so much, as none of the reviews mentioned that it covers only the eastern half of the battlefield, which is the opposite of what I wanted - oh well, still some useful info and excellent regimental-level background on La Haye Sainte, Papelotte/Frischermont, Plancenoit, and the final collapse and withdrawal, which appears to have been a lot less drastic than English accounts would have us believe.
* It also prevented me from wasting a lot of time and effort going down the "1st Chasseurs a Cheval in Carabinier-/Line Lancer- style helmets" rabbit-hole for my Brunswick opposition forces, as it appears the unit was politically suspect and was not used very much either at Quatre Bras or Waterloo; the sister regiment in its brigade - 6th Chasseurs a Cheval (natty yellow facings) - was massively more heavily engaged.

A copy of Mark Urban's Tankie. Spending is curtailed so I still have a slight chance to get to Vienna and Partizan next year.
