SYW game

Saturday sees the continuation of our SYW campaign.
BTW I was all concerned to plan it out before we started. I didn't realise it would mostly plan itself.

At any rate, having trounced the Austrians in the last game, Fred.'s boys are urgently needed to halt the rampaging French.
The game will be a simple seize & hold the crossroads.

It's been given a bit of zest by:
1. deployment will be brigade at a time, French, Prussian, French etc.
2. It's 4 brigades a side & you needed to send your preferences to the umpire eg 3 infantry & 1 cavalry? 2 & 2? All infantry?
Use a light brigade of skirmish troops as 1 brigade? etc.

Things are going so well, this might never end. There's talk of a French army being sent to Scotland to fight alongside the Jacobites ( one of us is building both sides for the '45). etc.

The game went very well - fast & exciting, ending in the French withdrawing as time ended (sunset?)
At 4 brigades a side, not a very large battle:


There was quite a lot of manoeuvring before blows were struck:


A highlight was a cavalry clash on one wing, where waves of Horse hurled themselves at each other:




The Anglo-Prussians, in the end, proved too strong;

Yes. Because? They uniquely wear grey uniforms & it breaks up the masses of off-white units.

So exactly the same reason I chose them (and the Colonel Général's mob). The Royal-Allemand Cavalerie also beckoned, but I couldn't find a suitable figure and was too lazy to convert.
