Invasion of Cuba test battle 3

Post by Willz the Wargamer »

The gaming mats from Sally4th finally turned up yesterday, 19 days for a 48 hour delivery.
Still they are pretty good and I am happy with the product but not the company.

So I had a third test game with 4 British battalions of infantry and one shore party in the attacking force.
The Spanish have a 2 cannon shore battery and 4 cannon in the fort and 2 battalions defending .
The British landed only losing one stand and then overwhelming the Spanish.

Conclusions for a more balanced game.
Better artillery firing mechanics for the shore to ship.
Spanish need 2 more cannons and at least one more infantry battalion for defence.
Spanish reserves timed entry and better defence deployment.
British are unable to land full force in one go. Best to have a second landing by dice roll.

The mats look like they were worth waiting for, mate, and I like that other fort as well. Artillery fire against small boats should be nasty. Is the problem getting a hit or that not enough damage is caused?
If "The System" is the answer, who asked such a bloody stupid question?

Cheers chaps for your kind comments and support.
I looked over my notes and realised that I buggered up the damage hits on the landing boats.
Basically I should have used one dice to defend the shot but Mr no brains here used two Doh!
No wonder the Spanish gunners could not hit :fp:

The new fortification with the Martello-type tower is a cracker!
