We need to look at formation.

Our forward line is always going to be advanced - because Gunnar's always going to charge, and that's all there is to it.
So the forward line needs to form up on the dwarf.
And that line needs to be shoulder-to-shoulder.
Yes, the end guys can get flanked, but when the elf ran in and left a gap between himself & Gunnar - that left the possibility of them getting swarmed 3-1.

Also - individual role.

A three-man front line can provide decent cover for two hangers-back.
But two-man front line can't cover three hangers-back.
Look at your loadout: anyone wearing armour, carrying a melee weapon, and having a decent 'Toughness' bonus for damage reduction, needs to be in the line.
(If they also have decent missile capability, use it before the groups meet, or use it in close combat.)

i think someone must have hacked Norm's account because thats a very sensible post.

The 2 of us with decent range attacks are the Necromancer and the hobbit.

So would it make sense to have front 3 (or4) Dwarf, Elf, Witchhunter + (Dave)

Second line Necromancer and hobbit - who as second line try to move out to cover flanks and shoot up the rear/flanks of the opponents ?

I agree with all, except the last post. I am literally useless in melee. I must have rolled exceptional in the previous game for those kills. Even my ranged skill is dubious due to the damage I put out. I’m your stealthy/perceptive chap for when we are scurrying about perhaps.

Certainly the little thing I have with Ferdinand works well. I am squishy

Annoyingly as I check the rules today, my halfling is high on ‘Dodge’ which can be used as my action to break from melee, avoid damage from both hand to hand and projectile. So one I’ll remember in the future

Don't talk to me about 'dodge'. When I first got the character, I thought he'd taken all his advances and was ready to step up to 'Wizard Lvl. 1'.
Wasn't til I got fine-tooth-comb that I realised he was short 10 points in 'dodge'.

YOU SUNK VALUABLE POINTS INTO PLAYING THE VINUELA, YOU SHIFTLESS HOGWARTS REJECT!

It's a medieval hispanic guitar thing. I looked it up.

I won’t be having with this sensible tactics nonsense in my RPG. Take 20% off all your stats and let that be a lesson to you!

Ok technically my halfling should probably be dead.
Just looked up ‘small’ status -

Size Combat Modifiers

There are many modifiers a Character gets depending on size. If a Character is bigger than their opponent, they gain the Damaging Quality, multiply their damage by the number of steps, and all successful strikes activate the Deathblow special rule (page 160)!

But on the plus side...

If a Character is smaller, they gain a +10 bonus to hit their opponent in melee and shooting outright at all times.
