Airfix, either British and French, or possibly Romans and Ancient Britons (I had both). Watching the paint come straight back off was part of the ritual...
Painted properly would have been , Airfix AWI Grenadiers, modified (Mutilated!) into Austrians, in accordance with instructions from Airfix Magazine, possibly by Terry Wise. (Vintage Wargaming will know). I'm still painting Austrians today...

Not sure which, either UK/German '44 or cold war UK/Soviet 6mm armies. All H&R bought from the Navwar shop on my way home from work. Had to guess at the Tamiya paints to use.

Airfix ACW - even had converted Confederate cavalry from the US Cavalry set. Until my sodding brother pulled all their heads off; stabbing himself in the hand with the needle flagpole was a small consolation (but guess who got smacked for "letting him play with it"?).

Minifigs Wars of the Roses in 25mm when I was about 14. Sat in a cupboard for forty-something years. Now they've gone to a good home - Mr Hotel of this parish.

Airfix, painted a British colonial army using WWI Germans in pickelhaube, all in red coats of course, added a Highland regiment by using the Waterloo Highlanders and lopping their heads off and replacing them with more WWI German heads, but they wore khaki. Fought many heroic actions against the Airfix Arabs and the dastardly French (Foreign Legion) for possession of Fort Sahara. Ahh happy days.

British Napoleonic. First unit was a dozen Mini Figs British Marines coz that was all the art shop in Victoria Circus, Southend had at the time. Bought my Funckens there as well. First 'proper' army that I remember was WW I Germans using converted Airfix ACW artillery for 7.7's and ACW cavalry for uhlans. Then Prussian Napoleonic converted from a whole mess of Airfix WW I French. (Back in the days of plasticine, drinking straws and banana oil.)
