Did it involve Molli, a link of sausage and an inflatable bladder on a stick?
I thought all our plans did that.
Generally, yes

Not so - the Aetheric attunement is of no use at all to a starting character.
Deets: page 132. It’s definitely for ‘channelling’.
And no starting level character is ever going to need that.
I will correct myself on spell miscast, though.
Page 234 flat-out says a failed casting test means nothing happens.
Page 236 then adds that a fumbled casting attempt results in a roll on the ‘minor miscast’ table.
Now that has happened at least once before.
And I airily waved it off, saying my Aetheric talent rendered such trivialities beneath me.
Still, I got away with it, and that’s what matters.

The starter set character builds are quite odd -in some ways they give you stuff you don't need or don't follow the normal rules for developing characters. So they give you a quick start but make it more difficult when you go to the next stage of character progression.

Yeah, reading up on actual channeling you may be
partially right.
You can only fumble channeled spells. You can still crit though
For a while I’ve been making you roll, a fail is a fail, so nothing happens and you haven’t rolled any crits yet

Yup. I suspect they were generated to cover the lack of rules in the quick start box and to make the characters more durable and exciting to a starter player. A dumb build regardless

I think 236 uses the term ‘channelling’ in a general sense, because it’s very specific that it’s the casting test that may result in a minor miscast - and one makes a casting test even for unchannelled spells.
Also, page layout - that section on 236 is obviously intended to run straight on from the section on 234. It’s just that the miscast table gets in the way.
The ‘Channelling’ section, with its own rules for fumbling etc, doesn’t start til 237.
In other news: Might just pay the XPs, go ‘Wizard level 1’, crack open that grimoire, and hope nobody asks about the whole ‘magic license’ business.
Or get Molli to source a forged one, maybe?
Fuck da po-lice.
System be rigged to keep a brother down, yo.

Is it an offence to practice necromancy without a licence?
Seems to discourage entreporeneurialism and innovation.

I am very happy for you to be able to fumble all your spells. It’s what I’ve been after since the start as the price of magic should be high.
