The Loose Association of Wargamers

Our mini-SYW campaign is going well.
So far, the biggest battle was this encounter between sizeable armies from Prussia & Austria.
We've used the Black Powder rules for a first time with Horse & Musket & are quite pleased with the result.

The battlefield. Maps were distributed prior to the game. Because of previous Prussian victories, The Austrians were made to deploy first:

There were minimal numbers of skirmish troops involved but they began the battle & were quickly depleted;


New units to the collection were used- proxies for the British:




Ultimately, the Austrians, who'd decided to defend, were subject to a double-envelopment:







A strong position meant nothing as Fred.'s troops applied pressure:





With three brigades broken, the Austrians threw caution to the winds & attacked:

But Prussian pressure extinguished their attempt:






I think this ends the Austrians' campaign for a while. The French will try their luck in future encounters.

A series of tactical blunders by the Austrians.
Fred.'s boys were deployed on the right side of the table & had to cross a stream & the attached woods to get on the battle-field proper.
And I opted to be defensive instead of putting pressure on immediately!
And to cap it off, i opted to delay the entrance of one of my cavalry brigades. By the time it entered, it was held up by a traffic snarl.

In the spirit of the campaign, I should have retreated early & lived to fight another day but as we'd all made efforts to be there, i couldhardly say to my pals, after an hour, "Ok, let's call it quits".

Still, immense fun as usual & maybe my beloved French will do better.

meant to ask Donald do you have any references for Austrian artillery drivers as I am in the process of finishing off
some limbers of various colours but do I add riders or leave them riderless and use them as generic equipment.
