Sorry to intrude in the discussion. I've got a Bronze Age HC game organised for this Friday - Hittites fighting Mycenaean/Sea Peoples' forces.
One of the few criticisms we have of HC is the Blunder table. The "penalties" are seen as bland.
I've decided for this game, we'd consult Fate Cards if you rolled the double-six. These were created for Field of Glory & there's a dozen - one reading, eg,
"The gods guide our missiles! For one turn a selected unit doubles its shooting range". That type of thing. IME, you only get 2-4 blunders a game, anyway.
Certainly not a Big Thing nor even necessarily a Good Thing. Thought I'd share.

November Ancients
Re: November Ancients
Gave the impression I was washing up in the kitchen to quickly paint up my Numidian heavy cavalry, just need to do their riders. These aren't the best models out there but they're cheap and effective. Bought from the 1st Corps stall at Vappa years ago. Sadly they dont seem come to Vappa these days. They were only about £5 each. Might need some extra crew though as only seem to have a rider for each?

Re: November Ancients
OK here we go
Greeks
Hoplite Units: 10. Each 16-24 figs (1 depicted as Spartan, 1 as Sacred Band but they dont have to be)
Light Infantry: 2 x Javelins, 1 x archers, 1 x slingers
Cavalry: 2 x Light Cavalry (can be javelins or lances in Macedonian style)
Peltasts: Not sure how these are classed. Got 46 figures of these. So could be 3 units in close order or more in skirmish type order
Macedonians/Successors
Phalangites: 2 standard sized (48 figures, 200mm frontage), + 1 smaller sized (100mm frontage/24 figs) but would be Hypaspists/Silver Shields or whatever
Elephants: Hopefully 3
Cavalry:
1 x Companion Heavy Cavalry
1 x Extra Heavy Cavalry with Lance (stretch target....! may not get these painted !)
Re: November Ancients
That's quite a huge army Simon. If I remember Jamie's Romans correctly, I think you have more than enough to match them plus Tim's republicans. That would give ys an all day battle without the need for any of my Trojans (plus if I add what I've got, we're gonna need a bigger table!)
Why us? Cos we're 'ere lad, nobody else.
Re: November Ancients
I have 4 divisions....3 of infantry and 1 of Cav

Re: November Ancients
Last time we had Jeremy's carthaginians too didnt we so needed your trojans as well to balance out. Purps would like to play too but wont have any figures btw if you are devising commands etc. Don't have to use all my figures of course -would be nice to see your Trojans again !garyp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:07 pm That's quite a huge army Simon. How big are your divisions? If we're going to try for a reasonably balanced game, a little more detail would good.

Re: November Ancients
We did, but Tim's republicans are significantly smaller than Jeremy's carthaginians and my Trojans and Achaeans are quite a bit bigger than 3 years ago (8 or 9 chariot units and around 15 medium infantry units, plus plenty of archers and skirmishers).goat major wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2024 9:35 pmLast time we had Jeremy's carthaginians too didnt we so needed your trojans as well to balance out. Does Purps realise HC is like Black Powder? I thought he'd rather gouge his eyes out than play BP again?
I'll try to balance the forces once I get a better idea of Jamie's Romans
