My suggestion would be a game based around whatever toys you have available. 18c, 19c, WW1, WW2, whatever. 1) Make it visually appealing 2) Give them an interesting briefing explaining who they are and what troops they command. 3) Don't tell them the rules (let them understand they are novices). 4)...

Use these rules if you wish to go down the 18th century route. They fit on 2 pages.
