Civilians

My wargaming tends to ignore the inconvenient truth of non-combatants/untrained civilians at the sharp end. The exception is a large formation of ECW clubmen, that I'm working on now. They're mostly Hinton Hunt figures - crude but with undeniable charm. In 'Victory without Quarter' they enter on the...

No. More like leading a herd of cats.

Re: Wargaming is a difficult hobby.

Perhaps 'difficult' was the wrong word.

'Complex'?

Our group doesn't argue over rules, in any rancorous sense, but as I usually take the lead, I need to explain things to them.

Wargaming is a difficult hobby.

You want a game of chess? Take out the board & set it up - 2 minutes. You want a miniature wargame? A bit more complex. One of my pals was saying the AZW figures he'd painted for a Show game 3 years ago were gathering dust. It's easy enough to have a garage game in a few weeks....or is it? Since...

Re: Base ID

I find identifying units (& their often individual stats) one of the challenges of wargaming. Armies were you get a lot of units that look identical - French Napoleonic line infantry or Zulu impis etc - make it a challenge to have differences between units. It's often easier to make them all 'va...

Base ID

Typically, any army I build will see an initial completion rate sufficient to game with, in a fairly short time. Then, over even years, I'll add a unit or two, re-base a unit or two, add or subtract figures, thus requiring a re-basing. Etc. My methods for basing are of 3-4 quite distinctive types - ...

Re: Dunoon - ECW game

I finished my last Royalist unit: Commanded shot. https://i.postimg.cc/qM70R5vh/sas3.jpg Tillier's Regiment. Sources indicate a Green flag. I found a green flag. Sources say green coats for "Irish" regiments - although mostly English & Welshmen, they were in Ireland at the start of the...

Re: Dunoon - ECW game

BTW flag-wise for the ECW, I have acquired nearly all I need.
This often meant I'd name a unit not because of an OOB, or because I liked it but because I could get the correct flag.

One exception was Covenanter dragoon flags. My 2 units don't, & probably won't, have a flag.
