Gaming mat: recommendations, please.

Sea -scape. Up to now, I've been using an old, blue bed-sheet, partly tucked under my terrestrial gaming mats. Inadequate. I think I need to buy a purpose built gaming mat with a seascape pattern. My other mats are material but I think this "sea" should be vinyl? Mouse-pad? Definitely no g...

Re: W-i-P War galleys

Thanks for the kind comments. The NKE boats are very rough so I'm planning on a lot of sanding & trimming. And painting - not sure if I'll go with serviceable, earthy tones or add a lot of flashy painted design. The big issue is a suitable sea battle-mat. I guess I'll have to shell out some seri...

Re: These rules won't work

I didn't know any of the negatives before going 'card driven'. It all sort of looked hip and the cool kids were all using it. Maybe there should be a warning label on rule sets similar to the warning label of packs of cigarettes. "Card driven activation causes battlefield chaos and is awkward t...

These rules won't work

Today was never going to be a 'proper wargame' & it wasn't. We'd trialled the 'Victory without Quarter' ECW rules last year twice with small armies. Today, was going to be bigger - about 18 units a side. My pal lined up his splendid Parliamentarian army opposite my Royalists & we largely exp...

Veteran, trained, raw?

I'm getting my ECW English Royalist army ready for the first "serious" (if you know what I mean) game, next weekend. We've had 2 games last year with the 'Victory without quarter' rules but need to work out any kinks for our 2 day Show game in November. The rules stipulate, not unusually, ...
