Re: Walls

I just think that walls of that size and sturdiness would have been protecting a proper castle establishment rather than a few hairy-roofed bothies. As always, you've given me something to think about. Anyscale offers this: https://anyscalemodels.co.uk/products/scottish-castle I could clear out the...

Re: Walls

Happy to be corrected, but I'm not sure that walled towns were really a thing in mid-17th Century Scotland. I think you're right - the place was terminally poor & small urban centres would not have been able to build walls. However various large towns/cities were walled eg Kirkcudbright had a &...

Re: Firelocks

I thought a Quandry was a marsupial, limited to Western Australia, with a subspecies in Tasmania? Known for its "WTF" facial expression. It is endangered due to it's near terminal indecision about whether to feed, fight or fornicate.* Are you talking about Australian animals or Australian...

Walls

I've been re-vamping my Scottish walled town for our ECW gaming. https://i.postimg.cc/15Mrgd02/anyscale-2.jpg I'll need to acquire 3 more wall sections from Anyscale & I think I'll make a separate base board for it but I think this will provide some nice enough terrain to fight over. donald

Re: Firelocks

Paul is humble about his knowledge of the period. I'm genuinely ignorant. Small units of shot, including firelocks should not have a compulsory evade move when charged by cavalry. Yes, "Commanded Muskets". I've always wondered how much use these were because as soon as the Horse moved, the...

No pikes? Remember the loading time of firearms in this period & bayonets hadn't been invented.

Firelocks

Our ECW rules, 'Victory Without Quarter', have a few holes in them. For example, they make no mention of Highland troops which as we have Montrose's army, is a bit of a gap. This has been fixed but there are other troop types that need addressing. Notably, 2 of our armies have a "firelock"...

The reason I spend more time painting than gaming is that I enjoy it more!
My reply was that I gamed better than I painted but on reflection, I'm pretty bad at both.
Nonetheless, I do enjoy both hobby aspects.
