Did the Greeks carry flags?

Post by ochoin »

Specifically , a question for Pyrrhus' army : my current project.

I've started working on P.'s Companion cavalry (his agema or bodyguard) & I want to know if I can include a flag-bearer.

I've actually found a suitable Pyrrhic paper flag but what's stopping me is confirmation that flags were carried in this period of history.

Some of the very clever LAW members are sure to know.

I know it's hard to believe, but I don't think any of them are actually THAT old, Donald.

Do whatever you want, Donald. Who's to say if they did or they didn't?

Flags are pretty. You could play around with different shapes and designs. Marvellous.

And make them big, of course.

And when some ribbon counter picks you upon it just tell them that it's in Herodotus. Use Google translate to invent a grik phrase to indicate there is and they will never know it made up.

σημαία

That's the Greek word for flag so they must have had them (can I ignore that's modern Greek so at least quite a few centuries out of date?)

Go for the flags Donald. As EB and the Bear says they are pretty and sod the ribbon counters.

I think I remember Duncan Head talking about this ages ago, and there's no reason why they couldn't have had Vexillum style standards.
