AI and the hobby: talking points

Post by ochoin »

My son was showing me his new phone & its features. It uses AI & can do a lot.
Including "fake" wargaming photos:

So, if I'm a shallow person, I can easily & quickly fake "my" work & post it online for the gratuitous applause of my peers? Maybe to win an on-line painting contest?

Clearly, a worthless, self-defeating exercise but I guess *someone* , somewhere, will do this in the future.

So, if this is of some concern, here's a positive - critiquing your painting:

This is what AI wrote:
Critique of the Model Before and After
Before:
* Base: The base is simple and lacks detail, which could be improved to enhance the overall scene.
* Paint Application: The paint application seems uneven in some areas, particularly on the cloak and uniform. The edges could be cleaner and sharper.
* Highlighting: There's little to no highlighting, making the model appear flat and lacking dimension.
After:
* Base: The base has been significantly improved with added detail and color. The blue and gold accents create a visually interesting foundation.
* Paint Application: The paint application is smoother and more consistent. The edges are cleaner, and the overall finish is more polished.
* Highlighting: The model now features subtle highlighting, which adds depth and dimension. The highlights are well-placed and enhance the figure's details.
Overall: The improvements made to the model are significant. The after image showcases a more polished and visually appealing miniature. The attention to detail, particularly on the base and the addition of highlighting, has elevated the overall quality.
Additional Suggestions:
* Weathering: Consider adding some weathering effects to the model to give it a more realistic and lived-in appearance.
* Oiling: For a deeper, richer look, applying a coat of oil wash can help to enhance the details and create a more cohesive appearance.
By implementing these suggestions, the model could be further refined and achieve an even higher level of quality.

Not sure if I trust it to make judgements on model painting!

However I am wondering if it might ease the problem of getting illustrations and diagrams for PDF type publications that don't have a big budget to commission artists or licence their work etc....?
