Re: Goat Gallery
Not a new thing. I'm just reposting the same stuff CB-style. But I've made a new update on my blog series on creating the Walloon Guards brigade from 1743. This time ..... flags (with just a little help from DavidNBA!)

Out of interest, what resources have you found for the WAS in Italy? I've got plenty of uniform info, but I'm struggling to find orders of battle or decent maps for the battles. Also flags for the Neapolitans seem to be something of a mystery.

I've only really looked in detail at the Spanish forces. For Campo Santo i constructed my wargaming order of battle from a few sources
This article in Spanish(which can easily be run through Google translate) https://arrecaballo.es/siglo-xviii/guer ... a-1742-43/
An article on the SYW Assocation website https://stefanov.no-ip.org/MagWeb/7ywaj/91/7y91bcob.htm
The Nafziger oob shown in this blog http://nigbilpainter.blogspot.com/2015/ ... santo.html
and some deciphering of the counter deployment in an Italian Boardgame of the battle https://boardgamegeek.com/image/7894606 ... santo-1743
There are a few mixed quality maps of the battle around but my favourite is this one
https://www.mcu.es/ccbae/es/catalogo_im ... download=0
There's also some interesting stuff in The Defence of Piedmont (WIlkinson) (kindly lent to me by our own CB!)
Most of the OOBs sort of agree (on the Spanish anyway) - with most of the vagueness being with the irregular/light troops that i'll think about more at a later date.
I sorted out my target OOB (1 table battalion = 2 real life) and then marked up the map shown above and stuck it on my wall
Hope that helps. I am no help whatsoever on Neopolitans though. !!
Re: Goat Gallery
Excellent! I found a few wargames articles, but they were more than a bit vague (not helped by the fact that a lot of Spanish and Neapolitan units have the same titles). I also found that map, but the resolution made it unreadable!
Don't suppose you've got anything for Bassignano?
I don't know if you've seen the amazing collection of Neapolitan uniform held by the New York Library's public archive? Well I've stuck them together into a coherent document and corrected a few mistakes made by whoever labelled the originals. Still can't find any flags, though...
Here's one page of infantry regiments. There are five pages of infantry, two of dragoons, two of cavalry, one of guards and one of other corps. It's a very, very pretty army:

Very nice uniforms indeed ! That's a great resource. I'm off to New York in April. Hmmmm...
Do you find the map easier to read on the link above ? I printed it out over 4 x a4 pages
Sorry nothing on Bassignano. I've been very focused on what Ive searched for

Yes, it's brilliant, but for some reason it's in a file format that my computer doesn't want to save. I hate tech... I'll pm my email address and we can exchange prisoners... My Neapolitan powerpoint for your map in png format...goat major wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 8:14 pm Very nice uniforms indeed ! That's a great resource. I'm off to New York in April. Hmmmm...
