What you really want is a steampunky/VSF/Pulp/Gothic Horror sort of thing. I'm thinking the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies crossed with Cthulu.

Guy who’s pushing for the pulp thing is using pulp alley rules and going for an 1890’s setting. It will be steampunkier than the Clash in a sauna.
