Snow basing?
Snow basing?
Anyone done it? I have some snow from warlord but it never looks that good? Anyone have any recommended techniques? It'll just be for figure basing, my tanks are mostly done.
Re: Snow basing?
Mix it with wood glue till it’s lumpy and clumpy and then apply to the base
Re: Snow basing?
Baking soda and PVA slurry. Add some white craft paint for opacity. Water it down for slushy consistency or leave it thick for the piled on look.
Has the advantage of being able to represent different types and thicknesses from slush to drifts depending on the proportions you mix up. Looks good with tufts poking through too

Re: Snow basing?
Does it have to be proper deep snow? People do seem to like it as they get to buy expensive specialist modelling materials. Otherwise, just dry-brush your usual brown/green with white. It'll look nice and cold, and let's face it, with troops and possibly vehicles around, virgin snow doesn't stay that way for long.
I know... Gasp, horror! - not using proper modelling techniques! I'll get me coat.

What Dave says.
But also.......
Superfine powdered filler. Mix to the manufacturer's recommended consistence but err on the side of 'just a little too wet' because you don't want it to peak when you spread it. Substitute PVA for a little of the water when mixing because it improves the bond to the base. Don't apply too thick otherwise it might craze but you're unlikely to get a flat finish if you try to add a second coat.
You can push tracks into the 'snow' when it's almost dry.

What Paul says.
And what Dave says about snow after troops and tanks have been through it. My 1814 stuff is getting mud on the troop bases and Paul’s approach on the surrounding terrain.
If you are looking for deep virgin snow, a very tiny amount of sugar sprinkled on carefully post-varnish gives you a certain frosty twinkle.

I get lockdown, but I get up again.
