I nearly acquired a Goretex DPM smock that had been left on a weapon loading pit but it was claimed by a snowdrop before my shift ended. I suppose the RAFP band below the chevrons were a bit of a giveaway.

Whereas I can get anal about shades as well, anything close will do because, as noted, it'll vary. As much as anything else with exposure to the elements.

Can't remember where I saw it (possibly even here!) but I've seen a photo of a car park full of BRDM-1 APCs. Each one presumably factory painted the same colour.

Not one of them actually being the same colour....

Indeed. When we got military flying-suits fresh out of the packet they were a bright, fresh thistle-green. After a few months, exposure to air and sunlight turned them a khaki-green and after a couple of years they would be almost brown in colour.
