As to brand, well no self-respecting wargamer would ever use anything less than Testor's Dullcote, available in very few good model outlets in spray or brush varieties. All other varnishes are fart-breath from beelzebub’s bum-hole.

Clearly inhaling the fumes from Dullcote leads to a world of sensory delights and a whole new perspective on life!

If I have painted my paper flags by hand or if I've had my own digital flags printed on a colour laser printer I use PVA to glue the flag and matt varnish them. For the former it ties the design together and for the latter it flattens the slight sheen of the laser printed colour. I use Humbrol matt coat brush on varnish.

If you have a digital file I would recommend getting them printed using a colour laser. My local print shop charges £1.00 for an A4 sheet. The laser toner is heat sealed, until inkjet ink, and doesn't run. Plus don't go for any special glossy papers. They have a special surface layer which will crack when you glue and drape the flag.

You ask a question & you get a bunch of conflicting replies.
I guess what else can you expect from a wargames' forum.

@ Vexilla. I do use the $10 grand laser printer at work for my flags. The result is pleasing.

OK, I'll hoy down to the LHS & buy a matte varnish (testors or humbrol: whatever they stock) & do a test case.

Thanks, donald

Yeah, I reckon a laser printer is worth using. You can get an A4 sheet done at office works for a handful of cash.

You know the rules mate - ask ten different wargamers the same question, and you'll get at least eleven different replies.

OOH, I know this one, that's the alternative answer to the 'why are wargamers like lawyers' question.. the other answer is of course.. 'WRG 6th Edition, and Newbury Fast-PLay'.

And that's the charm of gamers.

We may be weird. We may be frustrating. We may be inconsistent.....where was I going with this?

Oh, yes. We're never boring.
