As regards yon Ayton weekend coming up soon. I'd say it's up to each of us to make our choice as to wether to attend or not. At the moment, it's still booked on at the Hall, and it's still open & available. Can I suggest that we make our decisions in a couple of weeks when it's a month away? Some may want to cancel, others can still come if they choose to. That's assuming, of course, that hotels & pubs, restaurants etc are still open, might be difficult if they have to close, and of course the possibility that village halls might be ordered to close too. Keep calm & wait & see.

What's the thinking behind describing Italy as having a lower capability of response?

My tuppen'orth on that one, Shahb: Italy has a mixed partly-state run/mostly private healthcare system which does not offer the concerted consistency of response and seamlessness between parts of the whole that a genuine nationwide state health system does.

Although it's likely to look like a model of united effort compared to the fragmented hotch-potch that furnishes healthcare to the US.

I've got to say - with heavy heart - that I feel its probably better to assume we'll do it at another happier, calmer time when everyone can make it and we can do it properly. I don't want to do it in a half-hearted way and worry about the health of my best friends and their families.

I personally don't need to decide in advance (having moved house specifically to attend )so will go with the flow, but it may make it a lot easier for others to plan/cancel things if we face up to it sooner rather than later.

I'm afraid that I agree with Simon.

I've had the decision all but made for me because I have family in the main risk group. I can only say that I hope to attend if that's the decision, but I'd much prefer for the event to be postponed so we can make a proper fist of it.

As you are/were running the main game that might make the decision for us, you need to keep your conscience clear if anything were to happen to those close to you.

If this whole situation is going to be over by October (although there's likely to be an increase in cases into the autumn to make people panic again) could we use day 1 of Ayton 2 to put on some of the games planned for May or is that going to detract from shiny joy too much?
I'm in the position of being in a risk group and having a wife very much at risk.....but as we might well have it now I could probably still attend in May.

I’m happy to play it by ear though I think the sad reality is it will inevitably be postponed. I can’t see the situation improving in the next three months.

I suspect most places will be closed for food and drink by this stage and I’m not even sure the Lodge will be open still

I think the situation is unlikely to improve by May and we have some distinct risks. By all means delay the decision until April but sadly I don’t think we’ll be meeting at Ayton for this one. Hopefully everything is normalised for the second one.

I thought it would come to a cancellation/postponement, with the current government advice, let alone what directions are going to be given, or even become mandatory, nearer May. We have vulnerable group members (health wise), and two healthcare professionals who's services might well be required elsewhere, and it's more than likely there will be no viable accommodation available, and no facilities for food and drink. None of us would enjoy a half arsed Ayton that might also incur risks to our collective health. I believe this is the only option available to us now, sad to say. We can always regroup in October when, hopefully, this will be on the wane.

Have to agree. Postpone seems the sensible option. People are putting in a lot of effort both in organising and preparing for games and I'm sure we'd all like to see the fruits of that work at a full Ayton. And with it being our 10th gathering I'm sure we'd like to make it a good'en.
