Any recommendations or advice, medium to large battles planned, ideally bases rather than individual figures.
Fun and feel of the period is key.

Re: SYW Rules
I always wanted to use Maurice for SYW and earlier. But that's just me. Not a recommendation, just wishful thinking

Re: SYW Rules
The War Game by Chatles Grant (and amendments by CS Grant) - an old set but plays well.
Piquet FOB - the 3rd edition has just been published. I also like classic Piquet and Cartouche supplement (I am a bit biased on that though). Both are card based.
I don't like Honours if War.
Maurice is OK but I find that Cavalry melees just went on for ever.
Might and Reason - OK but you need to tone down the uber Prussians a bit.

Re: SYW Rules
I’ve been planning to use Die Kriegskunst. I believe it’s Angus Konstam’s adaptation of the General de Brigade Napoleonics rules. I ha duet to play test, bust as I’ve enjoyed the Son of GdB, General d’Armee, it looks as good a place as anywhere to start.

Re: SYW Rules
Dave has been working some time on an army-level 6mm SYW project.- rules and armies. If its anything like his FPW solution then it will be fab.
Re: SYW Rules
As mentioned in the Napoleonic rules discussion, I always used Shako (with my own modifications) for SYW. There's no figure removal, though casualties/loss of combat efficiency do need to be marked (a lot of my battalions are based in line on a single base). Line troops typically have four 'steps' before they bugger off and the best units take six steps, so you can simply use a D6 next to the unit or somesuch.

GM, not that I'm claiming my home-groan rules are particularly inspired, but would you like a copy?
And, I won't be overly offended if your response is along the lines, "I would rather read the back of a cereal box."
