I heard this story from a friend of mine almost twenty years ago, whose two angelic looking young sons aged about 12 and 10 were behaving much worse than normal, and acting up in the supermarket. So he spoke to them quite sharply, and as one, they both fell to the floor, covering their head in their hands saying.. 'no no daddy, don't beat us again' - which got him some death stares from fellow shoppers, and luckily for him, no police intervention.

They are now perfectly normal and respectable young men, I must ask them about that incident when I next see them.

Mine were 15 and 12. I laugh about it now (well, sort of), but this was whilst we were surrounded by heavily armed US law enforcement types. I suspect that if I'd been black it might not have ended so well......
