Agreed, wholeheartedly.

And his attitude is fantastic. If he doesn’t have what you want in his store, it’s only because you haven’t asked him to design and print it. A genuinely nice guy

I wasn’t aware of him:

But some of that looks very useful. I feel an order coming on.

John, get hold of him is there are specifics you want and he’ll do his best to design and print them for you

As I said, with the right resources, so is Borodino or Leipzig.

Quick overview of Forged in Blood.

The basic engine is from Song of Blades. Roll 1, 2 or 3 against your quality rating to see how many actions a unit gets. Screw it up badly and the turn passes to the other side. Units that are well away from the action can opt to make one move without testing. I like that, no more cavalry sat on the base line for 5 turns.

One aspect of shooting does seem a bit odd. The hit roll is modified by the target's combat skill as well as the firing unit's skill. This means that it's easier to shoot the rabble. It may work out in a game.

As the figure scale is one figure = 1 man the artillery section looks a bit over the top. Small companies are unlikely to drag big guns around. Maybe it was different in the 30 Years War. It does give you the chance to devise scenarios based on capturing them. Don't expect them to fire often though.

Combat is pretty standard, opposed rolls with modifiers.

The army lists aren't prescriptive. Each list has 3 columns, one for the basic default unit, one for possible variations and a suggestion for enlarged units in a bigger game. The list cover just about everyone in the 30 Years War and our Civil Wars. There is nothing to stop you tweaking them is you know more about the period.

It includes a decent scenario generator and has a casualty recovery roll for campaigns. There is a chance that casualties and fleeing units may desert after the game or even change sides but I haven't gone into that yet.
