Syw prussians

Post by FreddBloggs »

Other than hats, was there any practical difference between fusileers and musketeers by this point?

Nope.
They were made up of the short guys and the conscripted types that Der Koenig thought were a bit shit.
Apparently the muskets were also scaled down along with the hats to make them look impressive.

You'd think they'd just stick a plume on. Suppose that came later in the Napoleonic wars.

Also captured Saxons? Most of the Saxon army was captured at Ebenheit.
Fred. the G. wanted the manpower so was determined to make them ersatz Prussians......systematically beating the rank & file & imprisoning officers.
Ten of the thirteen captured Saxon foot regiments were kept intact, dressed with Prussian uniforms and supervised by Prussian officers. I think these were mostly made into the fusilier regiments.

As you can imagine, desertion was rife & a new Saxon army was assembled from deserters to fight Prussia.
I use my fusilier regiments as Second Rate troops & they're useful as a counter-balance to the usual Prussian "supermen".
