OK: I've "tweaked" the Zulus: we're using TMWWBK's rules. The UM's are slightly faster, fight slightly better but are a tad more undisciplined than the Ms.
I've also decided to differentiate the Zulus from their allies who looked like them but weren't in the regimental system & were of lesser effectiveness in combat. These include the abaQulusi who fought at Hlobane.
I think I want a bit more differentiation with the Brits, too.
So, Mounted infantry carry longer-ranged rifles but are a bit slower than the various Colonial Horse units - who carry carbines. I'm also lowering the firing ability for all mounted units if they shoot whilst mounted (we have figures mounted & on foot to replace them with).
The Unit Cards have been re-done to reflect all this & as we have a game on Sunday, I get to see if the tweaks work.
Any thoughts?

Re: UM & M Zulus. What's the difference?
I have met a handful of men who can hit a barn at 10 metres from horseback. They were all born in the saddle with a rifle in their hands. So, I reckon regular troops just shouldn't have a snowballs of hitting whilst mounted.
Re: UM & M Zulus. What's the difference?
Mounted figures need to be stationary & hit on a 7 (2 X D6) as opposed to a 5 for dismounted Horsemen. And they're firing at rather a large target: an impi. Still too generous?
Mounted units are from 6-9 figures strong & their opponents are @ 20+ so they won't do that much damage....& if they stand still & shoot for too long, they'll be the ones being damaged (short range for a carbine is 9" whilst Zulus move @ 7-8").
I've thrown some dice & Mounted units need some luck whilst shooting, room to move in order to get in 2-3 shooting opportunities & more luck in that the Zulus will be pinned.
