I came within a whisker of completing my Wurttember Challenge today (my last painting day of the month). All I needed to do was to finish the bases on the last grenadier battalion and gun and just one more hour would have clinched it. I blame myself... I got distracted painting 15 casualties as disorder markers for tomorrow's game and also painted a Bavarian general and a Saxon general for no apparent reason...

And I finally summoned up the nerve to do a test piece for my Jacobites.. so far, the sum total of my efforts has been one Government Infantryman, and one Highlander.. this one is awaiting inks... and having seen the closeup, some work on the flesh to blend it in a bit better too.

The Jock is really a very nice paint job, but I don't envy you doing scores of them...

given that he's painted one of each side I suggest stopping now and re-staging Culloden at 1:7000

1) Kilt tartan - very good.

2) Dicing on socks - excellent.

3) Tartan weave on work surface - fucking awesome (how long did that take you?).

Might I suggest saving a lot of time by not "graining" the wood on the musket? To my eye (YMMV) I don't think it ever looks realistic, and given the amount of oil expended on the real thing, at normal viewing distance it would look shiny rather than grainy.
