French Young Guard Cavalry 1813-14 (AB Figures)

Post by RMD »

Here's a blog post about some cavalry I recently painted for the Young Guard of 1813-14 (AB Figures):

There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!

Thanks fellas!

That's an excellent question and one I'd completely forgotten to address in the article, though it was probably long enough already. As with the Young Guard infantry, the cavalry were not volunteers, but were instead raised from the pick of the conscripts. They seem to have been as enthusiastic as you could expect from conscripts. Nansouty wrote to Berthier on 1st August 1813 to report that their manoevres had improved considerably, but that they were still as green as grass and only combat would prove their worth. I'll have to do some more reading, as I don't recall any accounts or anecdotes regarding their performance in combat.
