I'd be very interested to know how the DBN rules were amended for AWI and still gave a good game. My experience is that rules covering other wars (typically WSS/WAS/SYW/FRW) that are altered to cover the AWI never really work, because they're designed to replicate a very different type of warfare, usually involving massed cavalry and lots of artillery. In contrast, FIW/1812 rules generally DO work for AWI, because the format is pretty much the same, with guns being small calibre, small quantities of light cavalry, lots of Indians/irregular forces - basically, petite guerre/kleine krieg stuff).
