I haven't bought a model tree for years but the Late Antiquity period I'm currently obsessed with demands more forest for the dreaded Goths to lurk in.

I have an assortment of K&M trees but apart from the fact they don't appear to be on sale in OZ, they are fairly exorbitant.
Ebay! Masses of choices from China & cheap. But cheap & nasty looking, too.

So nice & cheap, the impossible dream?

Check out the railway modelling stuff. You can buy bulk tree armatures and add foilage. Probably much cheaper than buying ready made trees. I tend to bulk buy them at shows.

The armatures are great and I do have a method for making tough wargames trees that look great. But i'm not sure they're that cheap...difficult to judge as the ones I make tend to be quite large!

I inherited a shed load of really nasty Chinese bottle brush trees and brought up to a reasonable standard quite easily.

Then I made a load more trees from very cheap bottle brushes I got from a. 'pound' shop (two to four trees for a quid depending on how big I made the tree).

I have a blog........ when Andy reminds me I have a blog. As you can see, he's a proper slacker in that respect.

Find a friendly timber yard and relieve them of a carrier bag of sawdust. Let me know when you have it and I'll tell you how to make flock. Pounds of it for just a few pence (or kilos for cents).

Woodlands Scenics bulk packs. $1-2 per tree depending upon size. The Euro companies (eg Noch) also have similar products. Most model railway stores should be able to get something of the sort. Frontline Hobbies in Newcastle have them & are reliable for mail order. They also have (or had) a running Ferret scout car in their shop.

Sawdust foliage is proper old school. I've got a packet left over from the early 70's.
