Problems with AK interactive ultra matte varnish

Post by Atheling_2006 »

Hi,

I occasionally use AK interactive Ultra Matte Varnish on spots of any given miniature that I might have missed with Winsor and Newton Pro Matt Spray. I have not had any problems up to this point.

I haven't used the varnish in weeks; but now when I drop some out on my palette instead of the thin white vanish I'm not getting a light brown colour. I have not had the guts to use this on any miniatures.

I have the whole thing a severe shake and I'm still getting the same brown colour.

Has anyone else had this sort of a problem? Do I have a bad batch?

Cheers.

Very occasionally, twice in forty years, i've had paint start to "rot" and start to smell off and discolour. Probably due to mould I think.

Do you have a ball bearing in the bottle ? Could be rust.

I know this because I have had rusty balls.

I put one ion before shaking like mad today but not before. It's without doubt a bad batch.

I got in touch with AK earlier and they gave me a voucher but I still ended up paying nearly £20 to get more varnish! You have to spend a certain amount on their website to make an order and they obviously know this. :wall:

I usually get my AK paints from Great Escape Games (and usually at the shows).

Yeah, me too. I contacted the vendor I bought the varnish from Scale model Shop, who are usually excellent, from too but he was of very little help.

Basically the varnish was not fit for purpose and should have been replaced.

Could it be something to do with the weather/heat we've recently had?? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Has there been any direct sunlight on the bottle?

On the ball bearing/rust thing...I got some 'stone' (I forget the actual material name) that are used for jewellery etc and they're great!!

nope. Kept in a very opaque box in a room that has no direct sunlight. If it were the heat we would surely be hearing from others who had the same problem. Also, I don't exactly live in a typically warm part of the UK.

Sounds interesting. Do you have a link perchance?
