Got everything else I need as to colour for the Soumski regiment (grey pelisse & dolman, red breeches etc) but what colour was the lance pennet? I can't find this vital piece of information anywhere.

Napoleonic Russian hussar lance pennets
Re: Napoleonic Russian hussar lance pennets
I couldn't find any information at all on the Sumy regiment's pennants. It's not all that surprising, as they weren't meant to have them and the known examples were either unofficial or were captured French/Polish items.
The known unofficial ones were always combinations of the dolman, pelisse, facings or lace colours, so I went with the traditional red-over-white, as it matches the facings and lace colours and could also be captured French.

You've spelt it wrong, says our lodger, the tenant pennant pedant.....

Mark - thanks. This sounds logical.
Pennant. I hate making spelling errors. I've been known to put an 'n' in turret too........I must have been ill that day in primary school when the spelling of such words was covered.

You can just blame that on your Turrent's Syndrome.

Re: Napoleonic Russian hussar lance pennets
I found this disturbing pronouncement:
"Officially the lances of (Russian) hussars were without pennants. Unofficially the Pavlograd and the Izum and other hussars attached pennants".
I mostly believe that uniform regulations are regarded as a vague suggestion by most troops in most eras.

So you mean, there is a huge variation between what uniform and kit was compulsory and what was forbidden?
