[Ilkley Old School]

Following on from my recent games of DBN I have recently purchased a copy of DBA 3.0. After digging around in my shed I found a box of painted and unpainted Celts. Just the ticket.

I have quickly rebased a few figures on 60 by 30mm bases.

First up a Warband (3WB)



And secondly a base of Slingers.



I am thinking doing Ancient Britons vs Caledonians. I found 3 unpainted Foundry 2 horse chariots, a bunch of Infantry and some cavalry as well as over 60 painted infantry and 8 cavalry. I should be able to build these armies without having to buy anything extra.

I was bored today. So with all these trendy hobby bods talking about Slap Chop I thought I'd give it a try. First guy I didn't dry brush enough and the contrast paints I used were a bit drab... But anyway... Here is Johann von Bürt clutching Volume 1 of the Synopsis of his epic Treatise on the Conduct of Cavalry on the Field of Battle.

Next guy I drybrushed more and used brighter colours...

And finally a Galloping Major Naval officer painted normally. Lovely figure but fucking huge compared to Crann Tara!

Lovely work with the "slapchop". The first guy is a dour looking chap so the subdued colours suit him perfectly!

The Galloping Major stuff is big and chunky but very nice, I have a load to paint up for the FIW as it fits well with the AW miniatures figures I already have finished.

I do like those chaps! Personally I'm in favour of the chunky looking sculpts as I find them easier to paint nowadays, it's an age thingie.

Damn, I could have sworn it was the re-print of his other best-seller, "The Big Boys' Book of Basing". I'm sure I've got a 1st Edition somewhere......

1st Edition is quite rare. The subsequent 427 editions less so...

Ah, but each has small, but vital alterations to certain base sizes that cannot be missed, or the whole system collapses.
