Apparently it will appear in downloadable format on the Edinburgh University bookshop at some stage. No idea about the price.

Osprey gave permission for it to be published off-site given the involvement of an Edinburgh University Professor, hence it’s under the EU imprint. I might pop down and see if it’s in their bookshop :D

JollyBob put up a brief review on LAF:
“ It's more than double the thickness of the Osprey rules, and so crammed with details I can see it becoming a reference primer as much as a game expansion. The production is excellent, keeping the layout of the original for familiarity and including maps, illustrations and background that reflect the input of professional historians as well as game designers. As much as anything, it's a bloody good read. ”

I wish he hadn’t. I don’t need to re-start another medieval period, I don’t need to buy those Footsore Saracens they sent me photos of last week, I do not need to ‘take the cross’!

Edit: just popping into town.

Anyone know if it also covers Spain and the Baltic crusades?

No it just covers the middle east. I picked it up as a PDF from DriveThruRPG. It is a sourcebook essentially, rather than a set of army lists.

However the army lists are
-Western Crusaders
-Italian Maritime Republics
-Frankish Settlers
-Christian Military Orders
-Pilgrims
-Marauders
-Muslim Syria, Anatolia and Assassins
-Fatimid Egypt
-Saladin, Ayyubid and Mamluk
-Mongol
-Byzantine
-Armenian

There are no new troop types but there are six new unit upgrades (Religious Fervour, Assassination, Fear, Holy/Unholy, Greek Fire and Talismanic Objects) and twelve new scenarios.

P.1-p.3 Introduction & Foreword
p.4-p.25 History
p.26-p.36 Unit Upgrades
p.37-p.87 Army Lists
p.88-p.146 Scenarios
p.147-p.157 Gaming with history by Dan Mersey

I like it a lot and I think I may have to make an Order of St Lazarus army at some point in the near future.

Thanks ZB, I may go for the paper copy if there's anything else I want from Northstar as the PDF is $19.52.

Yeah, it is exactly fifteen quid but I needed the pdf because I can read it at work while pretending to be productive.

One of the joys of being a pensioner, I don't have to pretend any more.
