Oddly enough I had to do a will 4 years ago when I got married. To my wife's chargrin I actually own hardly anything of value except a load of Toy Soldiers. I put the value at £10k but having had a clear out, selling about £1k in junk I actually think to replace my toy soldiers (54mm) would cost about £3k and my wargames stuff in 28 and 42mm probably about £1k. Tanks add up quick at £20 a pop!
If the house caught fire I've a K&R box with much of my painted 28mm WWII that I'd grab under the other arm to the baby.

The Gateway alone, replacing like for like, would be about £4k. But you'd have to adjust for reputation.....and 'like' is a difficult word to use in the context of Spencer Smith. So maybe twenty quid....

As has been said earlier, it's worth a great deal to me, in terms of castings prices and the sweat and tears involved in painting, converting and then varnishing and basing etc. But it could be worth tuppence halfpenny to somebody who has no interest at all. So it's a question that cannot be answered to a conclusive point. In terms of it's disposal after my demise, I have left instructions and it will be parcelled out amongst relations and friends. I don't think any insurance valuation is ever going to be sufficient to me to replace it in terms of what so many of the toys are emotionally worth to me. And should something disastrous happen to the troops, I don't think I would even bother replacing them.

that is why I went for the insurance replacement value, get some stipend in return and what I then do would be up to me.

I sometimes think that a house fire would let me do certain projects differently and the way I wish I’d done/been able to do first time round

It’s worth what someone's is willing to pay for it. The cost to you to replace it would probably be much higher.
