More importantly...how is Sci Fi Rampant working out?
Well, it's still early days (2nd game) but I'm liking it. This game was 2-player and we had doubts early on that it was doing much for us. As it turned out that was largely down to us both standing our ground and firing back and forth without much effort at manoeuvre. Once we got moving again, and units started falling back battered, etc, things got a lot better and it felt more like what we were looking for. I've even been inspired to paint some figs since the weekend to give me a few more unit types to try next time.
The other thing I want to look at is some mission-based scenarios, to drive the players to achieve objectives and not just hit the dirt (or snow) and start blazing away, hoping to gain an advantage by out-shooting their opponents. Some of the LR/DR/PL scenarios are OK in principle, but the amount of melee expected in the periods they're designed for might reduce their natural fit for sci-fi.
EB has a variation on the DR approach, which I'm also keen to try. Having stuff based in singles means anything should work in principle. It just comes down to how the game feels really.

Those Laserburn miniatures look great with a good paintjob. I might have to drop my own venerable black guard into the dettol this Christmas.

I used to have The Red Redemptionists with their hand flames. Sadly they are lost to the mists of time

1st Corps / Curteys have some nice Sci-Fi colonial marine types for not much money. I'll be following your progress with interest Dave. This sounds very appealing!
