Gaming or painting?
Re: Gaming or painting?
Well I'm clearly in a minority of one in the thread, which is thoroughly depressing as I'm heartily sick of seeing posts of figures that never see action in a game. Don't get me wrong though, finely painted figures are fine if that's your thing, but I really expected more wargaming goodness on this forum.
There is no point in being stupid if you don't show it!

I’ve always generally been more of a painter than a gamer. And I enjoy it that way. This forum is founded around people who get together regularly over the year to play games. Those games are very special and I’ve made some splendid friends, but there is a reason it hasn’t happened much over the last 18 months.

Re: Gaming or painting?
Having said that , at the moment I’m not doing much of either though.
Re: Gaming or painting?
For a long time now, I’ve averaged at least two to three games a month, sometimes more. Granted, over lockdown they’ve been mostly virtual, but that’s still real figures on real tables. It might be figures and a table in Norway or Australia, Scotland, York or even in my own gaming room, but it’s still wargaming. All of them have been TFL games, but then I like them.Penda wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:55 pm Well I'm clearly in a minority of one in the thread, which is thoroughly depressing as I'm heartily sick of seeing posts of figures that never see action in a game. I’ve also played around 2-3 roleplaying games a week for the best part of two and a half years, which slots into the ‘Gaming’ category, as does Boardgames.

Covid has put a serious damper on people’s abilities to game. It’ll pick up.

Re: Gaming or painting?
I've wondered the same thing from time to time. More people talk about their purchases, next projects, and painting output, than they do about playing games (or even planning/intending to play games). However, so long as everyone gets out of the hobby what they're looking for, it's all good stuff and the responses to this thread demonstrate that.
For me, I prefer my enjoyment to come from the gaming side but am happy to put in the painting/modelling effort to get things in the table. Recently I caught myself thinking my mojo had gone, then realised I was only considering the painting side, when actually I've had a huge amount of fun playing games (3 face to face, 25+ solo - all 5 Parsecs from Home) in the last couple of months. In turn this has led me to get back to making scenery and painting figures - the wargamer's virtuous circle!

It's also not the most user friendly platform for giving game reports. Uploading pictures in quantity and the right order is a chore. I post a lot more game reports on Purp's Discord as its so quick and easy

I like painting figures. Not that I'm much choc at it.
I do love gaming. I game as often as I can, talk about it to anyone who'll listen, often think about it, read army lists, tinker with rules etc. Not that I'm much choc at it.
