I'm lucky to have had my own Wargames Room, GHQ, for the last 17 years. I play mostly largish games on my 6'x6'6" table exclusively in 28mm scale with the exception of my 20mm WWII NW Europe '44-'45 games. As I collect and paint both sides armies are usually 300-400 pieces a side, except for my much larger ACW collection. I do have some smaller collections: VBCW, Pulp, 1940/Operation Zeelöwe, Gangsters, Bolt Action Burma 1940. But nothing I'd called a Skirmish Game for the Figure Fiddler's with half a dozen figures.

To have thousands of figures on the table. To hear the lamentations of the table-legs groaning under the weight of lead. That is best.

Both have their appeal but a full day or weekend of gaming is purely a LaW thing these days.

What I just cannot feel any love for is games where three figures on a base represents a unit of 100 men.

I resemble that weekend. Damn, '08 was it. Time flies.

Each to their own as always, I don't mind either, but probably less into skirmish. I like the way dbx works out, large playable battles but with far less figures than the usual 1:20.

I much prefer big games, but I like any game that's played for the games sake and with good humour. And spectacle - spectacle is important. And good company - the most important thing of all.

And beer - mustn't forget the beer.

Oh yes, the beer. A good point, well made. Lots of beer.

I do love the occasional big game, but I don't have the space to run one at home, and our club space we don't have the time required.

So all my current projects are essentially large skirmish, suitable for a home 6 x 4, although I also have 6mm to do bigger battles on that.

By large skirmish it's mainly Lardie rules so my Jacobites are around 160 figures and Government around 140. These days I do both sides, so it's the same for AWI and Napoleonics.

And I still have some 15mm ancients DBM sized armies here, plus another dozen or so in the Oz stash.

The next project, I'm trying to persuade one of my close neighbours to do some Indian Mutiny for Sharp Practice. With the plan that we do one side each and then I will probably add opponents as well.

I will play and enjoy anything, as long as itr is with gentlemen,. But for me, the best games are enormous epics, ;asting days with tables groaning under the weight of lead. WRG with 8 people controlling a corps each, for example.
