As someone born in the first and only true English capital city (Winchester) I find it hard being called a Northerner.

You're fine for anything from Medieval onwards in the UK, much more widespread from the middle of the C16th.

Ahhh sadly no, although my dad did work at Lord Wandsworth College (where a certain Mr J wilkinson, Rugby Player went).
