Blimey Jeremy, you certainly have a lot of 'shades' to play with. You don't get that option with Humbrol: You generally have to mix each shade, generally using black, white or yellow (except when highlighting dark blue when you use light blue - white turns it grey for some reason) as the toner. Consequently, I use less pots, perhaps a dozen or so to do a 'thrice shaded' Napoleonic infantryman with full equipment.

This drawer shot shows the the total shades of paint I use to do everything - the ones in the red biscuit tin are unopened spares (so they don't get mixed up). I don't even use half of the 'opened' colours: Several tins (a strange assortment at that) have been gifted to me over the years by painters who have given up 'the hard stuff'.

I have hundreds of pots/tubs/droppers of different coloured acrylic paint..........and I probably actually use less than Oli.

I don't usually have that problem of recalling which paints I used as I generally paint a whole project from beginning to end, as in the Punic War and Pendawar, well nearly anyway. When adding to armies with new units near enough does for me, it's never noticeable on the table in a game anyway. My problem is recalling rules, even now we mostly play just three or four sets. Old Age I guess ..

Ah-ha ! I knew I wasn't the only "special" one.

I think I've got more vallejo shades in red, blue and browns than there are pots in that drawer but I still mix those as well!

Tend not to mix as my attention to detail is poor and I can never replicate the original pantone
