I have completed my first test base of Prussians for DBN on standard 40 by 25mm basing.

I have a memory of a lengthy series in Airfix Magazine, c 1974 or something, on converting things like ACW figures into Renaissance arquebusiers. (Though to be fair to the donor Airfix ACW confederates, there was a flat hat and below that could have been anything.)

I remember Terry Wise from about 1977 doing a series for the entire Napoleonic wars from airfix figures!

and the internet archive.. OMG.. just looking at Airfix Magazines I had in the early seventies. Ros Micro Model tanks for the princely sum of 8p each. Suburban bedroom memories of planes on threads...

Bring them up on the viewer and read away, the ads are just brilliant!

Back in the 1970s, Almark's "Modelworld" magazine had a four(?)-part series showing how to create any AWI unit you wanted from Airfix figures, using mainly Napoleonics and ACW, although I seem to recall there was actually an Ancient Briton involved somewhere.

Yes it does, I have the complete run of them (as I wanted the series on bailey and other bridges they did).

It is the problem with modern magazines I find, here, take a £50 kit, add £100 of aftermarket parts to make this stunning model....

The beginner, scratchbuilder end is missed.

Well Mr Dudley, they're looking a little bit sexy, I have to say.

I've just remembered that I got 5p a week pocket money - and the Airfix magazine was 25p per month in 1975... ok, enough Yorkshireman sketches. 'Used to live in a rolled up Airfix Magazine' (but only in the months that were 5 weeks...)
