(And yes, I did notice you were focussed on the 1813-14 campaigns when the Guard was pretty much all Boney had.)
I know exactly what you mean- a "no-fun" game against an army of elites is to be avoided at all costs.
However, the series of games I have planned will always hinge on numbers & scenario rather than quality.

For example, the first game (March?) will be devised. Napoleon is off table beating up some diverse bunch of foreigners. A Russian force is attempting to buy into the stoush but the Guard are under orders to stop them. So, to win, the Russian players merely need to get a number of units off table: no crushing the Guard is necessary. Additionally, it'll be a sizeable Russian force - 18 battalions of infantry etc (2 still to paint) against 14 French battalions. Allow for 6 French elite battalions (OG), 3 veteran (Middle Guard) and the rest are "mere mortals". I've also got some secret orders in mind _ Napoleon has stipulated that the 'oldest of the old' are NOT to be committed. Any casualties will mean head's will roll. So, these 2 battalions will be on table but (a fact not known to my opponents) unusable. 18:12 battalions (& we all know what happened to the French in 1812....)

Ditto cavalry -& I'm contemplating some extraordinary role for the cossacks. So, a fairly playable game I hope. Later games will sometimes be historical re-fights so staggered arrival times etc. All very playable _ & I'll not always command the French.

Hmm, yes you have..........you're just hoarding them.

Have you done anything with them yet? What do you have in mind for games? Perhaps we could compare notes?

I shall speak to you on this subject when we next meet - which I imagine will be the Vapnartak weekend? I'm booked into the hotel and rail ticket purchased.
