Very nice, Willz.
Are they the Warrior Redcoat figure? If so, that's a particularly clever pose you've achieved there.

I decided to paint the drummer in the same coat as the troops working on the theory that the colonel had to pay for the uniform and it was cheaper to sow some white lace on a infantry man's uniform than have a bespoke one made of different colours. He gets to keep the money saved, "ching ching"
So you've met a couple of my old CO's, then? That sort of thinking was more prevalent than many would realise, mate, and is a perfectly good reason.
I had a CO on one of my submarines who surfaced off the British Virgin Islands and let us see it for a distance as his next job was going to be the governor of the Islands. A real treat to stand on the casing a view paradise from 5 miles out, he would not allow the submarine a port visit as he wanted to save money. We got a barbeque at sea, whoopee doo skin flint.
Nobody chipped in for his leaving present, I wonder why.
Willz.

Yes Iain they are, they started as figures for another project.

Indeed. I'm painting some WW2 infantry at the moment & let's be honest - drab, camo uniforms do not hold a candle to such SYW splendour.

If there's any justice in the world, Willz, he'd have copped a case of prickly heat and been red and itchy from neck to knees for his entire stay, mate.

How does somebody go straight from captain of a submarine to Governor of the Virgin Islands? Was this some sort of pre-retirement boondogle?

No idea I think he had friends in the right places, you know he made such an impression on me I can't remember his name.

Jeez, I wish I had friends in the right places. All I have is Roland, a suspended refuse collection truck driver for the Council, Bill, recently placed "on three years holiday" (with good behaviour) by the Queensland Attorney-General & "Arfur", a prominent breeder of greyhounds until he was cautioned by the RSPCA.
Oh, & Iain from Essex, of course.
cheers, donald
