I'm sure those are the figures I painted years ago for Tim's 19thC Ayton game. Absolutely gorgeous figures but loads of worms on the castings......kept finding them as I was painting.

Best wishes for the project. Looking good.

They are the same figures Iain, although yours are embracing their new heritage as the 5th Virginia State Battalion:- The Richmond City Guards.

Did they really have gold-coloured chinstraps in The Crimea ?

Well, if the contemporary photographic evidence is reliable, yes they did. More likely I suspect in action they wore their fatigue caps.

The Crimean War project continues its progress steadily with the Coldstream Guards joining with the Scots Fusilier Guards and the mounted Guards Colonel in the embryonic Guards Brigade. I'll just mention that there's much more on my blog of course. The first Roosians are underway now, with the first base almost completed.

I believe that they were (and still are) made of brass, so yes, they would have been that colour.

A first base of Roosian infantry. As you'd expect more on my blog.

That's a very nicely posed base, and the Guards make a pretty dashing sight.
