It could have been a greyhound track, although I can't find a mention of that online. The 'Gabba in Brisbane had one around the perimeter for many years.BaronVonWreckedoften wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 6:32 pmDid the cricket ground originally host chariot racing.....?
I was wondering if it was Old Trafford or not - it's quite close to the Man Utd ground, which is correct geographically (when a very young George Best turned up for his MUFC final trial, the taxi driver took him to the cricket ground by mistake!). However, they shifted the orientation of the "square" by 90 degrees a few years ago, so the main pavilion is at one end instead of being at mid-wicket as it always used to be; also the shape of the playing area has changed. Plus they've erected hotels, hospitality suites and what-have-you in the former open-air crowd spaces.FreddBloggs wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:16 pm That's an athletics track. Not sure it is the cricket ground.
