I'm never painting my figures to look like that. It can look great on the table if done well. Shitty if not. And mine are toy soldiers so will be as I want them...

That's a great painting, mate. Röchling produced a lot of paintings full of energy and feel, like the one of the storming of the church at Leuthen. After the long approach march, lifting a siege and then another march to get behind the Russians, I'm a little surprised that he didn't choose to show the uniforms in even worse condition. His one of Freddie after Hochkirk is similar. I wonder if he had a chance to view troops on campaign, possibly in the Franco-Prussian or Austro-Prussian Wars?
