I've always thought (but not done it yet) that such small ships could also appear in 28mm battles, to support or attack land positions or fortresses from the sea. Iain - I reckon the Langton 1/300 figures would work really well, there are gun crews, officers, etc, all on nice thin bases. Also sailors climbing rigging, sitting in boats, rowing, etc. Separate guns too if you want to pimp the ships a bit more.
