On an historical note, the largest deployment of German troops outside of mainland Europe, prior to the transfer of the Afrika Korps (later Panzerarmee Afrika eventually comprising 33,500 German troops) to North Africa in 1941-43, was the 30,000 assorted "Hessians" sent to North American between 1776 and 1783.

That's only because the Prussians were too busy "acquiring" stray bits of Europe to spare any troops for hire as merc's, mate. :evilgrin:
